Panasonic Toughbook FZ-55 and CF-54 SSD Comparison

Posted by

The Panasonic Toughbook FZ-55 improved in many ways on its predecessor the CF-54. Both are semi rugged but key features make the FZ-55 able to be more easily customized. One of the design decisions made by Panasonic was to replace the standard 2.5" sata drive (HDD or SSD) that went into the CF-54 with an m.2 SSD. Switching to the M.2 form factor allowed Panasonic to free up some much needed real estate in the FZ-55 Toughbook and allow for more agile customization by the user. Standardizing the FZ-55 line at a minimum of 512GB SSD of storage eliminated a lot of post factory upgrade cost to the end user. An important security and convenience feature of the CF-54 drive design was the quick removable caddy the drive was seated in. Panasonic retained this function by placing the M.2 in a quick removable housing, allowing the user to quickly remove the SSD and stored data and physically disconnect it from the unit.
