The Rugged Store has a number of decommissioned and older Panasonic Toughbooks and Toughpads. This weekend, Personal Account Representatives Aaron and Kyle took out one of those older units for a photo shoot along the banks of the Mississippi. For this photo shoot, we chose to spotlight one of our retired CF-29 Toughbooks.
The Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 originally debuted in 2004. It was a fully rugged laptop that featured an Intel Pentium M Processor with 2MB L2 cache and 400MHz FSB. In 2007 the CF-29 was succeeded by the Panasonic Toughbook CF-30; however, even today CF-29s are widely still in use. Our particular CF-29 had a manufacture year of 2005 making it one of thousands of Toughbooks to be a decade old and still working perfectly. Toughbooks have an industry leading low failure rate of less than 3% and many (such as our CF-29) continue to operate well after their guaranteed life cycle.
The Rugged Store took our CF-29 to locations that its rugged specs could be utilized. Everything from rail yards and petroleum refineries to power plants and locks and dams. Even though our unit is still in perfect operation, we might soon subject it to the rigorous tests it was certified for over a decade ago; it might even debut in our next Death of a Laptop series…however for now, it is simply the star of our latest photo shoot.
